Statement:

I grew up constantly passing this sign. It made me wonder what this retro place used to be and why It was completely boarded up now. I heard different stories every time I asked what it was, a swanky hotel, a homeless shelter, a brothel, a drug haven…. The list went on. I think this idea of not knowing is what stood out to me. We see a contrast between the well-kept sign and the boarded-up windows, rusty fire escapes and peeling paint. This hotel was a spot in which Rochester History happened, but it has been completely forgotten also making us think about the significance of the passing of time and what happened in the same spots long before us.
