Statement:

In my lifetime, I have seen an upsetting amount of racism and police brutality firsthand. Behind the surrendering hands here lay the names of innocent black people whose lives were taken simply because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time and because of the color of their skin. Sadly, the police who are supposed to protect us now elicit fear. They have the black community wondering if their conversation with law enforcement will be their last. Their lives are no longer in their hands.
