Downtown Rochester is a unique place. A once booming city is now ridden with poverty and crime. Although so much infrastructure still stands, it crumbles. There is beauty in this, as it acts as a new surface for art. Graffiti takes over and tells us stories of the people who stood in the same places before us. It makes us think about the importance of human interaction and influence on our environments. It also shows us the effect nature has on man-made infrastructure once human maintenance diminishes. It begins to take back what was once theirs. Through these photos, we rethink the standard of beauty and alter our view on what most would think of as vandalism, as a form of beautiful expression.
